Giving cable the boot!

No trials this past weekend, so my big news is we finally gave cable the boot.....well mostly. We're keeping cable internet, and that would end up costing two dollars more if we didn't keep basic cable, but still we're saving about 90. a month. It was just silly to pay that much to watch so little, plus we can still watch the things we like through hulu and netflix.

Other than that we took Kittie, Abby & Indy on a 6.4 mile hike this weekend. It was just perfect weather, cool and sunny. Indy still didn't seem tired afterward and wanted to play when we got home. On sunday I decided last minute to stop in at my friend's training facility for little dog open practice. This week's focus was on weaves. It was a lot of fun, lots of short little courses with a nice variety of weave challenges. Indy has very nice weaving skills and likes them, but it's one of those things that I do need to continually reinforce with her, otherwise the desire to just run as fast she can and pop out of the weaves wins out. She did good, stayed in every time, only missed one entry at the very end of the 1 1/2 hour practice. What a good girl!

I wish Hulu actually worked in Canada and Canadian Netflix actually had decent shows and movies... At least my parents pay for digital cable though.

A 6.4 mile hike! Izzie would love to do that. It's still snowy here, but the sun flirts with us occasionally. Maybe I should ship Izzie off to you guys to have fun hiking and training since all that is on hold here right now lol.

Send her down! We take pretty long hikes year round, as long as the snow isn't too deep and there isn't any ice. I have a terrible sense of how long a mile is, but we've been going to a couple of parks with well marked trails that list the mileage. It's interesting to be able to know the actual distances. It didn't even take that long, about 2 1/2 hours going at a good pace.

I try to do a mix of short hikes where everyone comes and longer day hikes. I think it's good for the younger dogs to have shorter "rest" days as well as some long ones to build up stamina. No one ends up being left out much this way either.

Wow, 6 miles. That is awesome. The farthest I've taken my guys is one mile at a time. Should I put booties on my guys when it's cold out? I've only put jackets on them. I don't walk them if it is too hot or too cold out.
I don't get a chance to get on my computer at my house much. I've been taking care of my mother.

Hope things are alright with your mother.

The only time I've used boots is when I used to do a lot of neighborhood walks in the winter, to protect them from the salt. They just don't seem bothered by the cold unless it's very cold, in the teens. We do use coats though.
